A Boat Tour Near the End of Your Holiday: Is It Wise?
It is tempting to save the boat for the end of the holiday, as a treat. There are good reasons to move it a little earlier, and one or two ways to make a late booking work.
Short answer
Do not book a boat day for the day you fly. Plan for at least one clear day between the tour and your flight, so that a weather change has room to be dealt with. Note that free cancellation ends 48 hours before the start, so a tour booked late in your stay may leave you very little time to change your mind.
Why the flight day is a bad idea
A boat day is not a thing you can leave early. Once you are aboard, you come back when the boat comes back. The return times we hold on record run from around 16:00 at the harbour on the Caretta Bay tour to about 17:30 on the Island tour, and that is before the drive back to your hotel. The Manavgat and bazaar day is listed at about ten hours. Routes can also change with sea and weather, so you should not build a connection on any of these numbers.
Even the Fishing trip, which is back between 12:30 and 13:00, is not something we would pair with a flight. Salt, sun, a rushed shower and a check-out time that may already have passed are not a good way to end a holiday.
How the 48-hour rule shapes your plans
The cancellation rule is simple: free until 48 hours before the start of your tour. What matters is how it interacts with the end of your stay.
- Book a tour for the day before you fly, and your free window closes around three days before you leave.
- Book with fewer than 48 hours to go, and the free window has already gone.
- Book earlier in the holiday for an earlier date, and you have the whole of the rest of your stay as a buffer.
What happens if the boat does not go
Weather may force a change. On the Island tour the record says you will be offered a refund or another date. For other boats, ask us what applies when you book. Either way, the offer of another date is worth little if you have no days left. That is the main argument for sailing earlier.
A sensible way of arranging the week
| Clear days between tour and flight | What works | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Three or more | Any of the nine | Book the Pirate tour early, as it fills up quickly at peak times |
| One or two | A short tour, or Fishing | Check when free cancellation ends |
| None: the tour is the day before you fly | Only something short, and only if you accept there is no buffer | Have your packing done beforehand |
| The tour would be on your flight day | No boat tour | Enjoy the pool and your hotel |
Late-holiday tours that work best
If you are determined to fit in a boat near the end, pick a tour that is short and simple. Six-hour days are Caretta Bay, Dolphin Island, Little Pirates, Pirate and Fishing. Remember that the bazaar on the Manavgat day is held only on Mondays and Thursdays, so that tour has fewer dates to offer and may not coincide with the end of your stay.
Tired guests on the last full day of a holiday tend to get more from something gentle. Relax is an obvious answer, although our calm-day comparison will help you weigh it against the alternative.
Tell us your flight
If there is a flight in the picture, mention it when you book or message us. We cannot guarantee a return time, but we can tell you what we know about your date and your hotel. The booking guide explains what the form asks for. If you do book, pack the night before, keep your documents safe at the hotel, and arrange your check-out beforehand. You will get far more from the sea when you are not watching the clock.
