Worried About Feeling Queasy on a Boat Day?
We are a tour company, so we will leave the medicine to people qualified to give it. What we can do is tell you how the days differ, what we know about the route, and what you can ask us before committing.
Short answer
For advice on preventing or treating seasickness, ask your pharmacist or doctor, ideally before your holiday. From us, you can ask which tours spend time on the river, how the sea looks for your date, and whether a shorter day makes more sense. If you are unsure, cancel free up to 48 hours before the start.
What we can and cannot tell you
We cannot tell you whether you will feel unwell on a given day. It depends on you and on the water, and nobody can promise either. We also cannot recommend tablets, remedies or tricks. Please take that question to a pharmacist or doctor, who can consider what else you are taking and who is travelling with you, including children.
We can tell you how each tour is structured, and that is what the rest of this article is about.
Where the river fits in
Four of our tours begin by sailing on the river before reaching the sea: Caretta Bay, Manavgat and bazaar, Dolphin Island and the Pirate tour. The river stretch of the Manavgat day is recorded as calm, and is suggested for people who prefer not to face rough open sea.
Be careful with that, however. All four tours also reach the sea. The Manavgat day goes out into it for the foam party. So the river gives you a gentler start and a part of the day out of the open water, and that is all it can do. It does not turn the outing into a river-only day.
Length of the day
One thing that you can control is how long you are committing to. Six-hour tours are the shortest we list, and the Fishing trip returns you to your hotel by the early afternoon. The Island tour and the Manavgat day are the longest. If you are uncertain how you will feel, the shorter day means less time to wait if it does not go well, since a boat cannot simply drop you off on request.
Questions to send us
- Is there a tour that would spend more of its time on the river than this one?
- How does the sea look for the date I have in mind?
- If the route changes that day, how would we hear about it?
- Is there somewhere shaded on board where I could sit?
- How long is the part of the day on open water?
We answer what we know and tell you when we do not know. Our records do not include sea forecasts, wave heights or a guaranteed calm day, because no such thing exists.
On the day itself
Tell the crew straight away if you start to feel unwell. They need to know, and they cannot help with what they have not been told. Sometimes it is simply a matter of letting them know where you are. Anyone travelling with you should know how you feel too, especially if you are looking after children, who stay in their parents' care all day.
Sea and weather can change the route, and swim stops are also subject to conditions. Those adjustments are made by the crew for good reason, and it is not unusual for the plan to change.
If you would rather not risk it
There is no shame in deciding that a boat is not for you. Free cancellation lasts until 48 hours before the start, so you can reserve while you think it over and consult your pharmacist in the meantime. If you are torn between two boats, our calm-day comparison may help. If you would like the day to have an end you can see from the start, go for a shorter tour. The prices page and comparison table will help you weigh them up.
